Gantt chart maker

Paste your task list. Dependencies, weekends and the critical path are worked out for you.

Columns

Columns in this order unless a header row names them: Task, Start, End, Duration, Depends on, Progress %, Group. Give a task an end or a duration; 0 days makes a milestone.

    Tasks

    #TaskStartEndDurationDepends onProgress %GroupWorked outDelete

Editing here rewrites the paste box. Depends on takes task names or row numbers, separated by commas or semicolons.

    Days off every week

One date per line, in the format chosen above; words after the date are ignored. You type your own: the page has no built-in holiday list.

The task list is packed inside the link itself, after the #, so it is not stored anywhere. Whoever opens it gets their own copy.

How to make a Gantt chart

    1. Copy your task list from a spreadsheet, header row included, and paste it into the box. Or type one task per line, with commas between the parts, or fill in the table.
    2. Pick how your dates are written: 2026-10-23, 10/23/2026 or 23.10.2026. The page never guesses; a date it cannot read is listed under the chart with the format that would read it.
    3. Give each task a duration in days (or an end date), and in Depends on the task or tasks that must finish first. Only the first task needs a start date.
    4. Choose Working days to skip weekends and type your holidays, or Calendar days to count every day. Switch the scale between day, week and month.
    5. Save it: PDF to print, PNG for slides, SVG for design programs, CSV to take the computed dates back to your spreadsheet. Or make a share link.

How the dates are worked out

A duration counts the days the task takes, the first day included. In working-days mode the page skips your days off, so Design,2026-10-23,,5 starts on Friday 23 October and ends on Thursday 29 October (Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Build,,,3,Design starts the next working day after Design ends, Friday 30 October, and ends on Tuesday 3 November. Add 2026-11-02 to the holiday list and Build ends on Wednesday 4 November instead. In calendar-days mode, Design runs 23 to 27 October.

A task with a start and an end but no duration keeps the number of working days between them; if a predecessor pushes it later, it moves as a block. A milestone (duration 0) sits on the day its predecessor finishes and is drawn as a diamond. When two tasks depend on each other, directly or around a longer circle, neither can start first: the page names the loop and lists those tasks, and any that wait on them, in an Unplaced row instead of drawing a wrong date.

The critical path comes from a forward pass, which gives each task its earliest start and finish, and a backward pass from the plan's last day, which gives the latest start that would not delay the end. Where the two are the same, the task has no slack. In the example, Write content can slip a few days without moving Launch; Design cannot.

    What it cannot do

    • No resources, people, hours or costs: it plans dates, not workloads. Durations are whole days.
    • Links are finish-to-start only. Start-to-start, finish-to-finish and lags (such as "two days after") are not modelled; put a waiting time in as its own task if you need one. There are no deadlines or "must finish by" dates either.
    • No sync with a project management tool: it reads pasted text and writes CSV, SVG, PNG and PDF files.
    • Over 300 tasks is slow on a phone, because the whole chart and table are redrawn after each change: measured on a desktop computer, 300 tasks take about 0.2 seconds and 1,000 about 0.8 seconds, and a phone takes several times longer. The limit is 1,000 tasks.
    • Task names longer than about 50 characters are shortened with … on the chart; the table and the CSV keep them whole.
    • The PDF uses Helvetica, so a chart with letters outside Western European alphabets (or emoji) is put into the PDF as a high-resolution picture instead of text.
    • A share link over 2,000 characters (around 100 tasks with short names, fewer with long ones) may be cut by some chat apps; the page tells you the length. Your chart is saved in this browser on this device only; private browsing or clearing site data removes it.

    Privacy and what is stored

Nothing you type leaves your device. The page sends an anonymous page-view count and, the first time you edit or export, one of two fixed words (gantt-make, gantt-export), never a task name, a date or a file name. Your chart is kept in this browser's local storage as you go, so a reload loses nothing, and Clear the saved chart removes it in one tap. A share link carries the chart after the #, which browsers do not send to any server; opening one shows it as a copy and saves nothing until you tap Save this copy on this device. The PDF library (pdf-lib, MIT licence) is loaded from this site only when you first ask for a PDF.

    Questions

Is this Gantt chart maker free?

Yes. No account, no trial, no watermark and no task limit below 1,000. The chart is worked out and drawn in your browser, and your task list is kept in this browser's storage, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How do I make a Gantt chart from a spreadsheet?

Select the cells of your task list, header row included, copy them and paste into the box. The page reads tab-separated rows as well as comma- or semicolon-separated CSV, recognises headers such as Task, Start, Finish, Duration, Predecessors, % Complete and Phase, and lets you reassign any column under Columns. Then pick how your dates are written. To take the result back, export CSV: it holds every task's computed start and end.

Can I make a Gantt chart from plain text?

Yes. Type one task per line with commas between the parts: name, start, end, duration, depends on, progress and group, leaving a part empty with two commas. Design,2026-10-23,,5 is a five-day task from 23 October; Build,,,3,Design is a three-day task that starts after Design. Only the first task needs a date: the rest follow their dependencies.

How are dependencies and weekends handled?

Every link is finish-to-start: a task starts on the next working day after the last of its predecessors ends. In working-days mode Saturday and Sunday are skipped (you can change which days are off) and so is every date in your holiday list, so a five-day task that starts on a Friday ends the next Thursday. In calendar-days mode every day counts. A typed start date on a task that also has a predecessor acts as "not earlier than".

What is the critical path and how is it found here?

It is the chain of tasks that sets the end date: if any of them slips by a day, the whole plan does. The page runs a forward pass (earliest start and finish of every task) and a backward pass from the last finish (latest start and finish), and a task whose earliest and latest start are the same day has no slack, so it is critical. Those bars get a dark outline and are listed under the chart; the CSV gives every task's slack in days.

How do I print a Gantt chart or put it in a slide?

Choose PDF with A4, A3, Letter or Tabloid landscape: Fit to one page shrinks the whole chart onto a single sheet, Tile at actual size spreads a long plan over several pages that you can tape together. For slides use PNG at 2x or 3x; SVG keeps task names as real text for design programs.
