QR code scanner

Read a QR code from a screenshot, a photo or your camera, even one on this phone's own screen. See where a link really goes before you open it.

Choose an image or drop it here, or paste a screenshot (Ctrl/⌘+V) · read on this device, never uploaded

Open, drop or paste a picture, or scan with the camera.

Results

Each code found is listed here, typed: links, Wi-Fi, contacts, e-mail, SMS, phone numbers, places, calendar events and plain text. Links never open by themselves.

History off

Off unless you switch it on. When on, the text of each code (Wi-Fi passwords included) is saved in this browser's local storage only. Switching it off or tapping Clear deletes it.

    This browser reads QR codes.

Privacy: the picture and the camera stay on this device. Frames and images are read inside this page by a decoder that ships with it; nothing is uploaded, and the camera stops when a code is read or you tap Stop. The page sends an anonymous page-view count and two fixed event names (open, read), never what a code says.

How to scan a QR code from a picture or the camera

    1. Get the code in. Tap Choose an image and pick a screenshot or photo, drop a file on the box, or copy a picture and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). For a code in front of you, tap Scan with camera and allow the camera; on a phone the back camera is used.
    2. Read the result. Every code in the picture is listed and outlined with its number. A link shows its full address with the part its owner registered highlighted, so login.example.com.evil.net clearly goes to evil.net.
    3. Check the warnings. Plain http, a look-alike international domain (xn--), a link shortener or a name hidden before an @ are flagged in words.
    4. Use it. Copy any field, tap Show password on a Wi-Fi code, save a contact as .vcf or an event as .ics, or tap Open link if you trust where it goes.

    What it cannot do

    • Formats other than QR need your browser's barcode reader. QR codes are read everywhere by the decoder in this page. EAN, UPC, Code 128, Data Matrix, Aztec, PDF417 and the rest are read only where the browser has the Barcode Detection API: Chrome, Samsung Internet and Opera on Android, and Chrome, Edge and Opera on a Mac or Chromebook. Chrome and Edge on Windows and Linux, Firefox, and Safari (where it is an off-by-default setting) do not have it, so there only QR codes are read; the line under the results says what this browser reads. (Source: MDN BarcodeDetector browser compatibility, data fetched 2026-10-17.)
    • Damaged, blurred or tiny codes may fail. This page's tests read a code whose squares are 4 pixels wide, turned on its side; smaller squares, glare or a crumpled label often fail, so crop closer, zoom in before the screenshot, or hold the camera steady and nearer. Codes with logos over more of them than their error correction allows cannot be read by anyone.
    • It cannot tell whether a link is safe. It shows where the link goes, and nothing else: a correctly spelled domain can still be a scam, and a short link can change its target after you scan it.
    • It cannot join a Wi-Fi network or add a contact for you. Browsers do not allow that; copy the password, or save the .vcf and open it.
    • The domain highlight knows the common two-part endings (co.uk, com.au and about 50 more), not the full public suffix list, so on rarer endings it may highlight one level too little.

    Questions

How do I scan a QR code from an image or screenshot?

Tap Choose an image and pick the screenshot or photo, drop the file on the box, or copy the picture and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). The page reads every QR code in it, outlines each on the picture and lists it with its text split into fields. The picture is read inside your browser and is not uploaded.

How do I scan a QR code that is on my own phone's screen?

A phone's camera cannot point at its own screen, so take a screenshot of the code, open this page in the phone's browser, tap Choose an image and pick the screenshot from your photos. If the code came in a chat or an e-mail, save the picture first and open it the same way.

How do I scan a QR code on a PC or laptop?

If the code is on your screen, copy it to the clipboard with your computer's screenshot tool and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac) on this page, or save the screenshot and drop the file on the box. If the code is on paper or on a phone, tap Scan with camera, allow the webcam and hold the code about 15 to 30 cm in front of it, flat and well lit.

How do I scan a QR code from a picture on an iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap Choose an image, then Photo Library, and pick the screenshot or photo. You see the link's real domain and whether it is http or https before you decide to open it. To scan a code in front of you, tap Scan with camera and allow camera access.

Is it safe to open the link in a QR code?

This page cannot know whether a site is safe. It shows where the link goes: the full address, the registered domain highlighted, http or https, and warnings for look-alike international domains (xn--pple-43d.com can display as "аpple.com" with a Cyrillic а), link shorteners that hide the destination, and a name hidden before an @. Nothing opens until you tap Open link.
