Dated from the Fair Work Ombudsman's 2027 list, which gives the ACT's Anzac Day as Monday 26 April only, so Sunday 25 April is not marked as the ACT holiday. The ACT government's own holiday page blocked this calendar's fetch and has no 2027 copy in the Internet Archive.

The Territory's 2027 list gives Anzac Day as Monday 26 April only, so Sunday 25 April is not marked as the NT holiday. The show days (Alice Springs 2 July, Tennant Creek 9 July, Katherine 16 July, Darwin 23 July, Borroloola 13 August) are regional holidays for one area each, so none is marked; Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are holidays from 7 pm to midnight only.

South Australia keeps its Proclamation Day holiday on 26 December, the same day as Boxing Day. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are holidays from 7 pm to midnight only, so they never count towards a long weekend.

Easter Tuesday (30 March) is generally for the Tasmanian Public Service only, and the regional days (Royal Hobart Regatta, Launceston Cup, Devonport Cup and the show days) hold in part of the state only or are set by later declaration, so none is marked. Tasmania lists no Easter Saturday or Easter Sunday holiday.

Melbourne Cup Day is marked as metropolitan Melbourne's holiday: under s. 8A of the Public Holidays Act 1993 a non-metropolitan council may have it swapped for a local day, so outside Melbourne check your council (where no swap is made it holds statewide). The Friday before the AFL Grand Final (s. 6(ia)) is left out: its date waits on the AFL's 2027 fixture, which is not out yet.

Karratha and Port Hedland hold the King's Birthday on their own date instead; the page gives those regional dates for 2026 only, so they are not marked.

Every state's and territory's days are copied from a dated 2027 list. The state government sites (Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory) block automated fetches, so each list was read on 2026-10-15 from the Internet Archive's unaltered copy of the government's own page; the ACT's page has no 2027 copy there, so its days come from the Fair Work Ombudsman's 2027 list. Victoria's rows also cite the Public Holidays Act 1993 section that fixes each day.

The table is generated from the holiday data shipped with this page (holidays-2027.js and holidays-2027-regions.js); no date is typed in by hand.

Long weekends in 2027 Australian national public holidays

Three or more days off in a row, made of Saturdays, Sundays and the holidays marked on this calendar.

National days versus your state's days

Australia's public holidays are declared state by state, so each state and territory has its own list and some days land on different dates. What every jurisdiction shares is seven days on the same date: in 2027 that is New Year's Day (Friday 1 January), Australia Day (Tuesday 26 January), Good Friday (26 March), Easter Monday (29 March), Anzac Day (Sunday 25 April), Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December) and Boxing Day (Sunday 26 December). Those seven are what this calendar marks before you pick a state; the dates are copied from the NSW Government's 2027 table.

Everything else moves from state to state. The King's Birthday is Monday 14 June in every state and territory except Western Australia (27 September) and Queensland (4 October). Labour Day lands on four different Mondays: 1 March in WA, 8 March in Victoria (Tasmania calls the same day Eight Hours Day), 3 May in Queensland and the Northern Territory (where it is May Day), and 4 October in NSW, the ACT and South Australia. The second Monday in March is busy: it is also Canberra Day in the ACT and Adelaide Cup Day in South Australia, so on Monday 8 March 2027 four of the eight jurisdictions have a long weekend for four differently named holidays. The ACT adds Reconciliation Day (Monday 31 May), the Northern Territory Picnic Day (Monday 2 August), WA Western Australia Day (Monday 7 June) and Victoria Melbourne Cup Day (Tuesday 2 November). Every state and territory except Tasmania and WA also lists Easter Saturday, and all but Tasmania list Easter Sunday.

Victoria's dates are copied from Business Victoria's 2027 list and checked against the Public Holidays Act 1993, whose section 6 fixes them by rule: Labour Day is "the second Monday in March" (8 March), the King's Birthday "the second Monday in June" (14 June) and Melbourne Cup Day "the first Tuesday in November" (2 November). Each Victorian row in the table names its paragraph of s. 6. Cup Day is marked as a metropolitan Melbourne holiday: under s. 8A a council outside the metropolitan area may ask for it to be swapped for a local day (a show or a local race day, say), so in regional Victoria check your council. Queensland lists Christmas Eve from 6 pm to midnight, South Australia and the Northern Territory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve from 7 pm to midnight; the grid shades those whole days, so read them as evening holidays.

Substitute days in 2027

2027 is a year of weekend holidays: Anzac Day is a Sunday, and Christmas and Boxing Day fall on a Saturday and Sunday. Each state's table says what happens next, in its own words. NSW lists an Additional Day on Monday 26 April for Anzac Day and Additional Days on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December for Christmas and Boxing Day. Queensland, Western Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory list Anzac Day as a Monday holiday on 26 April; Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania give no extra day for it (Victoria's list says Anzac Day "is commemorated on the day it falls"). The ACT's and the Territory's lists name only the Monday, so for those two the calendar shades Monday 26 April instead of Sunday 25 April. For Christmas and Boxing Day every state and territory gives Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December, whether it calls them additional days or moved holidays. With no state picked, only the real dates are marked, because the extra days are state law and differ from state to state.

Some days are left out on purpose, as their own sources describe them: the NSW Bank Holiday (Monday 2 August) covers only banks and certain financial institutions, the Royal Queensland Show holiday (Wednesday 11 August) is for the Brisbane area only, and WA's Karratha and Port Hedland keep the King's Birthday on their own date, which the WA page gives for 2026 only. Victoria's Friday before the AFL Grand Final is a public holiday under s. 6(ia) of its act, but its date depends on the AFL's 2027 fixture, which is not published, so it is not marked. Tasmania's Easter Tuesday (30 March) is generally for the state public service only, and its regional days (Royal Hobart Regatta on 8 February, Launceston Cup, the show days) apply to parts of the state; the Northern Territory's show days (Darwin on Friday 23 July, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Borroloola) are regional too. None of those is marked.

School holidays beside the public holidays

Tick School holidays under the state picker (or add &sch=1 to a link) and the chosen state's 2027 government-school holidays are drawn as a grey hatched band, on screen and in every PDF layout, with the dates listed under the calendar. Private and Catholic schools set their own terms, so check with your school if it is not a government one. They are not public holidays: they never change the holiday shading and never make a long weekend. The dates are copied from each education department's own page, and the states print them differently. NSW, Queensland, WA and Tasmania print the holidays themselves (NSW only Monday to Friday, so its autumn break shows as Mon 12 to Fri 23 April). Victoria, South Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory print term dates only, so their holidays are the days between terms. Term 1 starts anywhere from Monday 25 January (NT teachers) to Thursday 4 February (Tasmania and NSW's Western division). Pupil-free days are listed only where the department names them: Queensland's staff development days, Tasmania's professional learning days, and the ACT's and NT's teacher-only first days.

Printing on A4

This page starts on A4, landscape, with weeks starting on Monday, as Australian calendars and printers do. Download the PDF and, in the print dialog, choose Actual size or Scale 100%: the sheet is exactly 297 × 210 mm and the year grid stays about 11 mm from every edge, more than the 3 to 6 mm a home inkjet or laser cannot reach. For a fridge calendar choose A month per page in portrait, where each day cell carries the holiday's name and you can add your own photo to each month without it leaving your device.

The address keeps your choices, so a link can open a ready-made version: ?region=NSW marks New South Wales, ?region=QLD Queensland, ?region=WA Western Australia, ?region=VIC&lw=1 Victoria with its long weekends outlined (SA, TAS, ACT and NT work the same way), and ?layout=month&orient=portrait opens the monthly version.

Honest limits

All eight states and territories now have their own days. NSW, Queensland and WA were copied from their government pages on 2026-10-13; Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory from copies of their government pages that the Internet Archive made between April and October 2026, read on 2026-10-15, because those sites block automated fetches; the ACT from the Fair Work Ombudsman's 2027 list. A day a government adds or moves after those copies (a new one-off holiday, or Victoria's Grand Final Friday once the AFL sets it) is not on this calendar until it is updated. Local show days and observances that are not days off (Mother's Day, Father's Day) are not marked; school holidays appear only with the School holidays switch, for government schools, as 2027 dates read from the education departments on 2026-10-15. The main 2027 calendar maker has the same tool for other countries, including New Zealand.

How a long weekend is counted

A long weekend here is any run of three or more days off in a row made only of Saturdays, Sundays and the public holidays this calendar marks for your country (and region, if you pick one). Nothing else counts: a day the source does not list is a working day, no “observed” day is added that the source does not state, and a holiday marked for part of a day only (Queensland’s Christmas Eve, from 6 pm) does not join a run. In England and Wales, Good Friday (26 March 2027) and Easter Monday (29 March) make one four-day run; the other 2027 bank holidays are Mondays, giving three-day weekends, and the substitute days for Christmas make Saturday 25 to Tuesday 28 December four days.

Bridge days are suggestions, not holidays. A bridge day is an ordinary working day between a holiday and a weekend. Take Friday 7 May 2027 off in Germany, after Ascension Day (Christi Himmelfahrt) on Thursday 6 May, and you are off Thursday to Sunday: four days for one day of leave. Two days of leave are listed when they give five or more days off, and three only when they join two weekends — Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 December in England and Wales turn into ten days, Saturday 25 December to Monday 3 January 2028 (the New Year substitute day). A bridge day is never coloured on the grid or in the PDF. Tick Mark long weekends (or add lw=1 to the link) to draw a dashed outline round every run on the sheet and in each PDF layout; month pages also print each run under that month’s holidays.
