Northern Ireland is part of the UK and has different bank holidays (12 July, no St Brigid's Day, no October Monday): they are on the 2027 calendar with UK bank holidays.
The table is generated from the holiday data shipped with this page (holidays-2027.js, the same file the grid and the PDF use); no date is typed in by hand.

What Irish bank holidays are
Ireland has 10 public holidays a year, up from 9 in 2022. In everyday speech they are called bank holidays; the law calls them public holidays. Nine are set by Schedule 2 of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997: Christmas Day, St Stephen's Day, St Patrick's Day, Easter Monday, the first Mondays of May, June and August, the last Monday in October and 1 January. The tenth, St Brigid's Day, was added in 2023. On those days most businesses and schools close, while services such as public transport still run, often on a reduced timetable.
In 2027 that gives New Year's Day on Friday 1 January, St Brigid's Day on Monday 1 February, St Patrick's Day on Wednesday 17 March, Easter Monday on 29 March, then 3 May, 7 June, 2 August and 25 October (all Mondays), and Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December. Six of the ten are Mondays, so 2027 has six long weekends.
The St Brigid's Day rule
Citizens Information states the rule this way: the public holiday is the first Monday in February, except where St Brigid's Day (1 February) falls on a Friday, in which case Friday 1 February is the holiday. In 2027, 1 February is itself a Monday, so the day and the holiday are the same date. In 2026 the holiday was Monday 2 February.
Easter, Good Friday and weekend holidays
Easter Monday is the only holiday that moves a lot: Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March, so it falls between 22 March and 25 April. 2027 is an early year, with Easter Monday on 29 March. Good Friday (26 March) is not a public holiday: some schools and businesses close, but there is no automatic right to the day off, so it is not shaded.
Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day fall on a weekend in 2027. Citizens Information's 2027 table lists 25 and 26 December themselves and names no substitute weekday, so this calendar shades only those two dates and no Monday 27 or Tuesday 28 December. The same page explains what a qualifying employee gets for any public holiday: a paid day off on the day, an additional day of annual leave, an additional day's pay, or a paid day off within a month of the holiday. Full-time workers qualify at once; part-time workers once they have worked 40 hours in the previous 5 weeks. You can ask your employer, at least 21 days before the holiday, which option applies; with no answer at least 14 days before, the holiday itself is your paid day off.
Irish school breaks in 2027
Irish schools do not set their own mid-terms, Christmas or Easter: the Department of Education fixes them for every recognised primary and post-primary school, three school years at a time, by agreement of the parties to the Teachers' Conciliation Council; the current agreement is Circular 0018/2026 (Department of Education and Youth, gov.ie; retrieved 2026-10-19), which covers 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29. So both school years that touch 2027 are published, and nothing below is estimated. Tick School breaks under the calendar to band them, hatched, on the grid and in the PDF:
| Break | Days off in 2027 | What the circular says |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas 2026/27 | Fri 1 – Tue 5 January | last school day Tue 22 December 2026; all schools re-open Wed 6 January |
| February mid-term | post-primary Mon 15 – Fri 19 February; primary Thu 18 – Fri 19 February | primary schools may use 3 discretionary days to take the whole week |
| Easter | Sat 20 March – Sun 4 April | last school day Fri 19 March; all schools re-open Mon 5 April |
| October mid-term | Mon 25 – Fri 29 October | all schools; the Monday is also the October bank holiday |
| Christmas 2027/28 | from Thu 23 December | last school day Wed 22 December; all schools re-open Thu 6 January 2028 |
The February mid-term is the one break that differs between the two levels, so with the switch on a School level select appears: primary bands 18–19 February, post-primary 15–19 February, and with neither chosen only the two days every school is closed are banded. Two things can still move a date: to make up days lost to storms or other closures, a school may shorten the February break to the Thursday and Friday, and a primary school may stay open up to Wednesday 24 March before Easter. The summer holidays are not drawn, because the circular does not fix the start or end of the school year: it says the year normally begins in the week that holds 1 September and that post-primary schools stop timetabled classes by the Friday before the June bank holiday (4 June 2027). Your school's own calendar, which it must publish on its website, has its exact first and last days.
The breaks are a band of their own: they never join the list of public holidays and never make a long weekend. The October mid-term's Monday is shaded because it is a public holiday, not because it is a school day off.
Printing on A4
This page starts on A4, landscape, with weeks starting on Monday, as Irish calendars do. Download the PDF and, in the print dialog, choose Actual size or Scale 100%: the sheet is exactly 297 × 210 mm and the year grid stays about 11 mm from every edge, wider than the margin a home printer cannot reach. For a fridge or office calendar choose A month per page in portrait, where each day cell carries the holiday's name and you can add your own photo to each month without it leaving your device. The address keeps your choices, so ?layout=month&orient=portrait opens the monthly version and ?weeks=1 adds ISO week numbers.
Honest limits
The dates were copied once, on 2026-10-14, from Citizens Information, the state's information service; if the government adds or moves a holiday after that, this page lags until it is updated. School breaks are banded only with the School breaks switch and only as Circular 0018/2026 sets them (copied once, on 2026-10-19); a school's own extra closures, such as days of religious observance or discretionary days, are not. Religious feast days that are not on the list of ten and local events are not marked. The calendar shades a day; it does not tell you whether your employer opens, which depends on your contract and sector. The main 2027 calendar maker has the same tool for 18 other countries and regions.
How a long weekend is counted
A long weekend here is any run of three or more days off in a row made only of Saturdays, Sundays and the public holidays this calendar marks for your country (and region, if you pick one). Nothing else counts: a day the source does not list is a working day, no “observed” day is added that the source does not state, and a holiday marked for part of a day only (Queensland’s Christmas Eve, from 6 pm) does not join a run. In England and Wales, Good Friday (26 March 2027) and Easter Monday (29 March) make one four-day run; the other 2027 bank holidays are Mondays, giving three-day weekends, and the substitute days for Christmas make Saturday 25 to Tuesday 28 December four days.
Bridge days are suggestions, not holidays. A bridge day is an ordinary working day between a holiday and a weekend. Take Friday 7 May 2027 off in Germany, after Ascension Day (Christi Himmelfahrt) on Thursday 6 May, and you are off Thursday to Sunday: four days for one day of leave. Two days of leave are listed when they give five or more days off, and three only when they join two weekends — Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 December in England and Wales turn into ten days, Saturday 25 December to Monday 3 January 2028 (the New Year substitute day). A bridge day is never coloured on the grid or in the PDF. Tick Mark long weekends (or add lw=1 to the link) to draw a dashed outline round every run on the sheet and in each PDF layout; month pages also print each run under that month’s holidays.
