Nothing you type leaves your device. The banner is drawn in this page and the PDF is built in your browser. The page counts one anonymous event when a file is downloaded (which kind of file, never the words on it), and keeps no draft.

How to print a banner with one letter per page

  1. Type the words. Each letter gets its own flag, in order, so “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIA” makes 16 letter flags plus two small blank flags for the spaces (or two gaps, if you choose that). Names with accents and letters such as ł, ś, ż, ş, ğ, ő or Cyrillic print as typed; a character the font cannot draw, such as an emoji, prints as a blank flag and the page names it so you can write it in by hand.
  2. Pick a size. One flag per sheet gives the biggest letters: a pennant 19 cm wide and 24.7 cm tall on A4 (7.7 × 10 in on US Letter), easy to read across a room. Two flags per sheet (landscape) halves the paper: 13.4 × 17.5 cm on A4, about 5 × 6.4 in on Letter, right for a mantelpiece or a cake table.
  3. Print at actual size. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” or 100 %, not “Fit to page”. Every sheet keeps a 10 mm margin so home printers do not clip the flag. 160–200 g/m² card (60–75 lb cover) hangs flat and lasts for years; ordinary paper works for a party.
  4. Cut and punch. Cut along the outer line (grey on the colour designs, black on the colour-in). The two round marks near the top of each flag are placed the same distance either side of its centre line, so the flag hangs straight; an ordinary 6 mm office hole punch matches them.

How to hang a letter banner

Thread ribbon, baker’s twine or yarn in through the front of the left hole and out through the back of the right hole, so the string runs behind each letter. Leave about 2 cm between flags and slide them until the spacing looks even. The summary above the download button works out the length for your words: “MERRY CHRISTMAS” with big pennants is about 3.1 m of flags, so cut the string about 60 cm longer for the ties. On a wall, two small removable hooks or washi tape at the ends hold it; across a mantel or a stair rail, tie it on. A banner that sags in the middle reads better if you add one more tie point under the middle letter.

Questions

Is this Christmas bunting a free printable PDF?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and the PDF is made on your own device when you press Download, so you can print as many copies as you like for a classroom, an office or a family party. “PNG, 300 dpi” saves one sheet as an image (use the arrows to choose which), for a print shop or a photo app.

Can I make a happy birthday banner with a name?

Type “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” and the name, for example “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIA”, and choose Birthday confetti or Pastel. Pastel changes colour from flag to flag (pink, mint, lemon, lilac, sky blue); confetti keeps a white background with coloured letters. The words are kept after Christmas too: a banner for a birthday, a baby shower, “WELCOME HOME” or a team name works the same way.

Is there a black and white version for colouring?

Choose “Black & white colour-in”. Each flag prints as black outlines on white: an outlined letter wide enough to fill with crayon or felt-tip, a dashed inner border and a few stars and circles to colour. It uses almost no ink, and it makes a good table activity: each child colours one letter and the banner goes up together.

Which flag shape should I choose?

The triangle pennant is the classic bunting look and uses the least ink. The swallowtail (a V cut into the bottom) and the scalloped edge look more finished on a mantelpiece. The square flag gives the biggest letters for its width and is the easiest to cut with scissors. Letters are sized once for the whole banner, so every letter is the same height even if one of them is a wide W or an accented capital.

How many sheets does a banner use?

One sheet per flag at one per sheet, or half as many at two per sheet: “MERRY CHRISTMAS” is 15 sheets with a blank flag for the space, 8 sheets at two per sheet. The summary under the preview always shows the count for your words before you print.
