Who is writing to Santa?

3
Paper

An empty name leaves a blank line for your child to write their own. The toddler sheet has no lines at all: the name is only there if you type it.

Nothing leaves your device. The letter is drawn inside this page, and the PDF, PNG and Word file are made in your browser. The name and age are never sent and never stored. The page only counts, anonymously, how often a PDF, PNG or Word file is downloaded.

How to make the letter to Santa

  1. Type your child's first name and age. They are set in a handwritten face on the sheet. Leave the name empty and the line stays blank, for a child who wants to write it themselves.
  2. Pick the sheet. The Letter has “Dear Santa, my name is…”, “I am … years old”, two lines for “I have been good because…”, 1 to 5 numbered wish lines and a dashed box to draw the wish in, signed “Love from…”. The Wish list has 1 to 12 numbered lines with a tick box each. The Toddler sheet has pictures and a hand-print box and no lines at all.
  3. Choose the number of wishes. Each wish gets its own numbered line; fewer wishes do not shrink, they get more room for big handwriting.
  4. Tick Colour-in version if your child should colour the sheet in, or if your printer is out of colour ink.
  5. Download the PDF or a 300 dpi PNG, or the Word file to type in it first, and print at 100%.

Questions

Is this letter to Santa template really free, including the PDF?

Yes. There is no account, no email address, no paid version and no watermark. The PDF is made in your browser at full print quality (300 dpi), so a smudged copy is ten seconds away from a fresh one, and for a brother or sister you just type the next name. Because the file is made on your device, the “free download” is the PDF itself, not a link to another site.

Which sheet suits which age?

The Letter works best from about five to eight, with an adult nearby to help spell. Three numbered wishes is a good start: enough to dream, and still room in the box to draw the biggest one. The Wish list suits confident writers and longer lists; a star next to the favourite helps Santa (and you) know what matters most. Older children often prefer the Word file, where they can type.

My child is a toddler and cannot write. What do they fill in?

The Toddler sheet has no writing line anywhere. It shows eight line drawings (teddy bear, book, ball, bike, building blocks, doll, paints and a train) to colour in if they want them, a box for their own idea where they can scribble or glue a picture cut from a toy catalogue, and a large dashed box for a hand print. Paint their palm with washable poster paint and press it flat in the box; the box is about 11 × 10 cm on A4 and 11 × 8.5 cm on US Letter, which fits a two- or three-year-old's hand (about 10 cm from wrist to fingertip); a bigger hand that spills over the edge looks just as sweet. Type their name if you want it at the top; without it the sheet simply starts with “Dear Santa”.

Is there a letter to Santa template for Word?

Yes. Word downloads the letter or the wish list as a .docx file with your child's name and age already in it. It opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice. The wish lines are table rows, so you can type wishes in advance, add or delete lines and change the font. The drawings (the frame, the pictures) are only in the PDF and PNG, which is why the toddler sheet has no Word version.

A4 or US Letter, and how do I print it?

The page starts on US Letter if your browser is set to US or Canadian English and on A4 otherwise; you can switch at any time. Print at “Actual size” or 100%, not “Fit to page”. Everything on the sheet keeps at least 6 mm from the edge, so home inkjet printers do not clip it. The writing lines are a pale grey that costs little ink, and the colour-in version needs no colour cartridge at all.

Where can my child send the letter?

Two national post offices answer or collect children's letters; we checked both of their own pages on 21 October 2026. In the United States, USPS Operation Santa takes letters at 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888. They need a stamp and a clear return address on both the envelope and the letter, and must be postmarked by Saturday 5 December 2026. Volunteers can then adopt a letter and send a gift, so write wishes you are happy for a stranger to read. In Canada, Canada Post forwards letters addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada. No stamp is needed; add your return address, send them by 9 December 2026, and put brothers' and sisters' letters in the same envelope. Dates change every year, so check the programme's own page before you post. Elsewhere, many families keep the letter at home: by the fireplace, on the windowsill, or tucked into the tree. An envelope to print is at the envelope maker.

Can Santa write back?

That is the other half of this site: Letter from Santa writes a reply with your child's name, age, town, good deeds and wish, plus a Nice List certificate. If you use the same name and the same wish, the reply answers exactly what they asked for.

Santa's reply to your child is at Letter from Santa. The child's letter in other languages, each written for that country: French, Lettre au Père Noël; Spanish, to the Three Kings or Papá Noel, Carta a los Reyes Magos; German, for the Christkind or the Weihnachtsmann, Wunschzettel-Vorlage.
